UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS POWER PROJECT PHASE I 6.0MVA, 11.0kV

University of Lagos was founded in 1962; the University of Lagos has, for over 5 decades, provided qualitative and research-oriented education to Nigerians and all those who have entered its domain in search of knowledge. University of Lagos has been issued an award. The Award was issued on the7th of December,2009 for College of Medicine on 1X2MVA and 7th of January, 2010 for University of Lagos on 2X2MVA. Having supplied the Gen sets, Installation works began immediately at both sites and the 1X2MVA was commissioned on 22nd Sept,2010 while that of 2X2MVA was commissioned on the 7th of November,2010. Cummins West Africa Limited (CWAL) completed the project as a Turnkey one when the Management of the University approved the Service Contract on the 16th of May, 2011 after a long negotiation with series of meeting since November 2010.

A two-tier stand and four major product announcements were reasons Middle East Electricity 2014, held in Dubai from February 11-13, was a notable show for Cummins. TOP U.S. HOSPITAL SELECTS CUMMINS ESB FOR LOW-NOISE COMBINED HEAT AND POWER A gas-based combined heat and power (CHP) system at Middlesex Hospital in Connecticut has been awarded to Cummins Energy Solutions Business (ESB). Located in Middletown, the hospital is a leading health care institution for the region, and was recently rated one of the top 100 hospitals in the U.S. two years in a row. Cummins Power Generation was selected as the hospital’s preferred CHP solution provider despite a rival’s position as the incumbent supplier of standby power units. Air quality and noise level solutions featured high on the hospital’s list of project requirements. Cummins ESB’s design ensures equipment is installed inside an acoustic enclosure which can be located within a permanent structure, providing an ideally controlled acoustic enclosure package. The Cummins ESB solution can deliver 2 MW of continuous power, and is built around a Cummins C2000 N6C gas-fuelled generator set with a Cummins QSV91G engine and equipped with a heat recovery steam generator. The Cummins ESB solution also features hot water recovery, selective catalytic reduction and oxidation catalysis.

ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGE COMBINES EMPLOYEE SKILLS AND INNOVATION FOR GLOBAL IMPACT

Since the inception of the Environmental Challenge in 2009, each year sees thousands of Cummins employees from around the globe join together to make our environment cleaner, safer and healthier. Fifteen projects were selected out of 86 applicants as winners of the 2013 Environmental Challenge, each illustrating a winning combination of environmental impact, employee engagement, innovation, sustainability and community partnership. Each winning project team will be awarded $10,000, payable to the community partner of its choice. The results from 2013 include: 11,513 employees from 22 countries 64,682 hours 10,000 trees were either planted or saved from deforestation 12,000 tons of garbage was diverted from landfills. 19,000 tons of greenhouse gases reduced—more than quadruple the results from last year Of the 15 winners, five projects were led by the Power Generation Business. TRUSTED PARTNER SIGNS UP AS GAS PRODUCT DISTRIBUTOR FOR CUMMINS ENERGY SOLUTIONS BUSINESS IN PAKISTAN

Cummins Energy Solutions Business (ESB) has signed Energy Solutions (Private) Limited (ESL) as its gas generating set distributor and service provider for Pakistan. Karachi-headquartered ESL has proven it can exceed customers’ expectations, which was a key differentiator Cummins was looking for in a local partner. Primarily a service company, ESL helps customers select, install, operate and maintain gas-powered generation equipment. ESL has become the trusted source of complete gas-powered packages using original Cummins engines manufactured in the UK. Service availability and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) solutions to multiple market segments are provided through ESL’s network of strategically placed offices around the country. ESL can provide solutions in paralleling, synchronizing and load-sharing of new and legacy systems, cogeneration, trigeneration and waste-to-energy projects, and has full turnkey capability. Its customers include Pakistan’s strategically important Independent Power Providers (IPPs). The new partnership with ESL marks an expansion of Cummins ESB’s position in the Pakistan market. ESL has an experienced team of power generation professionals who already manage over 1,000 maintenance contracts across the country. CUMMINS POWER GENERATION SUPPLIES POWER FOR SOLAR PLANT CONSTRUCTION PROJECT IN SOUTH AFRICA

Cummins South Africa is supplying backup power for the construction of a major solar plant that will play a vital role in the country’s renewable energy strategy. A total of 19 Cummins Power Generation 17 kVA single-phase generator sets are in use, under a supply agreement with the site’s contractor that began in July 2013 and is due for completion in early 2014. The generator sets ensure reliable backup for the plant’s onsite motor control centres. Influential in securing the deal was Cummins’ The Power of One™, which offers design, manufacture, delivery and support of complete power solutions from a single global supplier. The benefits for the solar plant project are smaller equipment footprint, reduced installation time and higher system reliability. The R3 billion ($92 million) 75 MW Kathu PV power plant is situated in the Northern Cape, the country’s largest and most sparsely populated province. It forms part of South Africa’s ongoing renewable energy programme, which aims to diversify the country’s energy mix and reduce its carbon footprint. When completed later this year, it is expected to be one of the world’s largest PV power plants with a single-axis tracking system. It will have the capacity to generate 146 GWh of clean solar power into the national grid – enough to meet the energy needs of more than 40,000 people based on average national per capita consumption – while displacing the equivalent of 50,000 tonnes of annual CO2 emissions.

TRUCK-MOUNTED SYSTEM TO TREAT POLLUTED LAND IN BRAZIL IS POWERED BY CUMMINS POWER GENERATION

The recovery of contaminated land in Brazil is being made more efficient thanks to a mobile unit powered by Cummins Power Generation. The State Institute of Technological Research (IPT) in São Paulo developed the computer-controlled system, which monitors the chemical treatment of polluted land. The system’s truck-mounted equipment requires 20 kW of power, supplied by a 25 kVA Cummins Power Generation generator set that features lower fuel consumption and lower emissions. São Paulo state has more than 4,000 contaminated areas that can benefit from the system, which remediates contaminated sites by injecting them with an antidote that makes pollutants harmless. The correct chemicals to inject can be identified by laboratory soil analysis, but they must be injected in the correct amounts, and the progress of the treatment must be carefully monitored. The aim is to convert pollutants in the soil into harmless carbon dioxide and water. The mobile treatment system can be used to clean contaminants ranging from pesticides applied to crops to solvents used in paints and industrial machinery. The chemical that will treat the soil is stored onsite in tanks. The computer controls the quantity of chemical released from its onsite tank, the mix of water, and the injection pressure. Care must be taken not to use too much pressure, to prevent the antidote spreading out and contaminating land that has already been cleared. The IPT system is a breakthrough since it puts the entire process under computer control.

ENTEBBE AIRPORT, UGANDA SELECTS CUMMINS POWER GENERATION TO MEET STANDBY POWER REQUIREMENTS

Cummins distributor Car & General Uganda has won a contract to supply standby power to Entebbe International Airport, in the face of strong competition from a rival local dealer. The order, placed with the country’s Civil Aviation Authority, is for two C1400 D5 generator sets enclosed in PowerBox 40S, with load sharing managed by a PowerCommand® Digital Master Control DMC 1000 system. Entebbe International Airport is the largest in Uganda, offering flights to destinations throughout Africa and also to Europe, the Middle East, India and China. The business district of the capital city Kampala is only 40 km from the airport’s location on the shores of Lake Victoria. More than 1.3 million passengers a year make use of the airport, which has seen rising passenger numbers year-on-year since 2010. The Cummins Power Generation generator sets are providing standby power to the main terminal building, as well as the airport’s signalling system and aviation equipment. Enclosed generator sets were supplied to help meet the airport’s low noise requirements. The Civil Aviation Authority is a first-time Cummins Power Generation customer. Cummins’ strong presence in the country and its global brand reputation were significant factors in Car & General Uganda securing the deal.

CUMMINS LAUNCHES NEW CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER IN MEXICO

A new customer service system now provides one face of Cummins to all customers. Cummins Mexico has just opened its Customer Service Center, which began operating in January and is located in the Parts Distribution Center in San Luis Potosí. The new system will support customers and all users who need services from Cummins, regardless of the product, business segment or distribution channel. Thus, Cummins aims to improve the customer experience when requesting services or information by providing one face as one company. Among the services that are available to clients and users, we can highlight the support for finding serial numbers of parts and equipment, equivalents, technical product information and nearby distributors and dealers.
